Life Legacy


William Earl Highfill of Salem went home to be with his Lord on March 7th. He was 89. He was born and raised in Coats, NC, he graduated with high honors from North Carolina State university with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a WW2 Army Veteran, serving his beloved country with distinction. After the war, he went on to a successful and colorful 43 year career with Exxon Research and Engineering as a Senior Project Manager, he oversaw the construction and many oil refinery and pipeline operations all over the world and experienced much during his career.
Even in retirement, our beloved Dad remained very active in stewardship of his fellow man. He was a member of numerous service organizations, including the Salem Lions Club, Habitat for Humanity and Trout Unlimited to name a few. He loved golfing, fishing and hunting as well as a good game of darts.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years Carol, his parents Raymond and Mattie Highfill and a sister, Lorraine Carlson. He is survived by a daughter, Lori Lynn Smith and her husband, Scott of Whitehouse Station, NJ, a son, William Bruce of Mountain Rest, SC, his devoted niece Janet of Raleigh, NC, his grandchildren, Austin, Carl, and Erica, great grandchildren Carleigh, Jayden and Allie, numerous cousins and friends to numerous to count.
Memorial services to celebrate a life well and fully lived will be held this Wednesday, March 1oth at Seneca Presbyterian Church, 115 W. South First St. Seneca at 3 p.m. with Pastor Richard Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.
